Just got the lastest issue in the mail -May 1998.  I try always to keep up with TN law regarding firearms. And I welcome what you do.  I read the last page "Petitiion for Amending......." and generally agree with what was written but I don't think itis correct.  Let me explain.  You write (under the liquor andAlcohol part) " If I go to pump gas in my car, I am on the premises ofan establishment that sells beer. Iam in violation of this statue. ..... If I go into a motel or hotel thathas a bar on their premises, I am in violation of the law as soon as Ienter their parking lot.  If I go to shop in a mall and leave my firearmin my vehicle, if any of the stores sells beer, I am in violation of thislaw." The law in question I believe is 39-17-1305 "Possession of firearmwhere alcoholic beverages are served/sold" a.  It is an offense fora person to possess a firearm on the premises of a place open to the publicwhere alcoholic beverages are served or in the confines of a building wherealcohlic beverages are sold. So .... If I go to a gas station and pumpgas and pay with a credit card at the pump and never go inside I am onthe premises but not in the dwelling. Premises applies if alcohol is served- dwelling if they are sold.  I would not be in violation if the gasstation does not "serve".  I would be in violation if I went insideto pay. If I go to hotel with a bar I am not in violation as soon as Ipull into the parking lot.  I am in violation as soon as I enter thebuilding. If I pull into a mall parking lot and leave my gun in the carI don't believe I am in violation.  If I go in I might be in violation- it could be argued
various ways since it might be one store versus the entire mall as being the dwelling - but I would not want to be the legal test caseon it. So there is a distinction in the law with respect to "served" versus"sold". Anyway please check what I wrote.  I believe I am right butI am no lawyer.

Thanks for the good work you do.

Regards,
Dave
