Gun in School & Fake Badge Used. by Father.

Rported by: WECT tv6

A parent of a Shallotte Middle School student is in jail. Perritt Elbert Alford, 43 years old, walked into the middle school Wednesday afternoon wearing a United States Marshal Service pin on his lapel and a badge on his belt with a loaded 45-automatic handgun.

Alford, however, is not an agent for the United States Marshal's service.

Deputies were alerted immediately and then arrested Alford on campus with no problems.

When searching Alford's home, deputies found dozens of fake law enforcement badges. They say those badges allowed him to impersonate officers from Tennessee to Brunswick County.

Alford's neighbors said they were aware of his collection of artificial badges and his love for law enforcement memorabilia.

Neighbors also said he was a good person and had no intentions to harm anyone.

Brunswick County Superintendant Katie McGee said the whole ordeal is worrisome. She's proud of the student who told school administrators that Alford had a gun.

"I feel good that we do have plans in place and this student did something very valuable to the community when she immediatley reported it at home and we immediately got some assistance," said McGee.

Alford is in the Brunswick County Jail under a $30,000 bond.

He's charged with having a gun on school property, impersonating a law enforcement officer, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Note:  It is this type of indicent that will cause more problems with CCW Badges.  The majority of law enforcement officers do not lik to see a CCW Badge.  Some states, New Mexico is one, have laws restricting the wearing of any badge that could be identifited or is similar a law enforcment badge.  Make sure a CCW Badge is legal to wear in your home state[most states allow them], or in any state you visit.

If you have one, don't wear it on your shirt or jacket.    Were it on your belt by your pistol.

One of the reasons this badge is worn by a legally armed person is for when they have been involved in a  self-defense shooting incident. A badge like this might prevent them from being shot mistakenly by law enforcement [this has already occurred in Tennessee & other states].   However, even law enforcement officers may shoot a fellow officer who is holding or wearing a badge.  You can never tell what might happen but, anything that might keep your body with the same number of 'openings' you were born with, is beneficial.
