![]() Carjacking Incident [10-29-07] Keith Gray heard his 71 year old mother scream. Some scumbucket was holding a shotgun to the head of the 71 year old mother. He wanted her car. He got the car but, Keith Gray her son, chased him. Shots were fired during the chase. The alleged carjacker came to a stop. He was ordered by Keith Gray to get on the ground. The suspect got on the ground but, he attempted to get up and, the suspect was shot in the leg by Mr. Gray. At this time no charges have been filed against Keith Gray. The suspect allegedly did not have a weapon on him when he was shot. We will follow this incident because, some of you might remember what happened to Wayne Martin in Nashville, TN when he chased a suspect who held a knife to the throat of his neighbor. After shots were fired and the suspect was dead, everyone in Nashville thought Wayne Martin was a hero. Then the Davidson County DA chaged him with 2nd degree murder. End result, he was charged, lost his TN Handgun Permit, and made a deal pleading 'guilty' so he did not have to spend any time in prison. Well, here is another incident where a legally armed person [Mississippi Permit], chased a person when the 'threat' was over. We will monitor this incident because, it has all the shades of the Wayne Martin incident. Always remember that when the 'threat' is over, it is up to the people with a 'badge' and an 'issued' pistol, to get the suspect. This is the way the law is written. Most of us don't like it but, remember that the majority of D.A.'s don't like anything that has any tint of 'street' justice. It does not matter if a person had a criminal background investigation to obtain a license or permit to carry weapons, is a law abiding citizen, or a basic 'thug'. Once the line is crossed, it is within their power to go after the person. Most times they do. Will keep you informed on this incident. If you want to comment on this story, send them to: comments@legallyarmed.com COMMENTS FROM READERS I don't like the rules either, but the key word here is CHASED. As you are taught in permit class, if a felon is fleeing, YOU CAN NOT go after them. If you do, you then become the aggressor and are looked upon as the BAD GUY. You need to keep the action on your property, so street justice can be served. The cops will not get any less money if you hendle matter on your property, they still have to do the paperwork.
Everyone needs to get involved in the politics of elected officals, including D.A.'s and make sure your interests are truly represented! D. Cobb ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This is not the only article I have seen that Mr. Kennedy has stepped out of the shadows and addressed areas that should be spoken about but might be controversal. No person who has obtained a CCW should violate the law. Even though the majority of us would like to take the same actions that this person did on a suspected criminal, we can't do it. It is not just violations of the law, it opens up the way for our critics to say: "Look at this...vigilante's. We told you so from the get go. Allow people to carry weapons and before you know it, they become judge and jury." States issue a license or permit to carry for self-defense ONLY! We all have taken the time, money, and irritation, to obtain the authorization to be qualified to carry defensive weapons. We need to remind ourselves that we are not in law enforcement and do not get paid to collect criminals. No matter how difficult it is to remain neutral after an aggressive act like this suspected criminal did, it is something we all need to remember. If the son followed the person who carjacked his mothers car, he could have called the police on his cell phone. If he was not able to use his cell phone, he could have gone to a location and called the police to tell them the license plate of the vehicle. Again, a lot of people who get robbed, never hear from the police after the robbery. It is just a fact of life that there seem to be more crooks and criminals than law abiding citizens [especially in Memphis]. However, if we all do not stay within the bounds of the law, we then become the type of people we originally obtained the authorization to carry a handgun to defend ourselves and family. I think it is beneficial for all of us to hear about the do's and don'ts from time to time. Legallyarmed.com and Gene Kennedy do this. I think it is all in our best interest to listen to his words. Sam Roberts ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Good for you to remind all members about the law and not to pursue a perpertrator once the threat is over. I think many pepole fail to understand the legal implications of such action as well as the civil liability it exposes them to which can potentially be even worse than the legal consequences. Thanks Curtis __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I remember when Wayne Martin was chaged with murder after he chased the armed robber. When he shot the creep, we all cried out GOOD! Two days later our mouths dropped open when the D.A. charged him with murder. It is a shame that criminals have more rights then law abiding people but, this is a civilized society. We now go over the way a murder can receive his execution so it does not hurt, be unkind to the person, or violate any of thier civil rights. We all created this enviorment of kindness to murders, rapists, and child molestors. We live in a civil society. If we lived in Iraq or a similar nation, we could just cut their heads off and go home to eat our bread. And we want to bring our form of civilization to them. Lets bring the troops out of Iraq and help their economy by paying them to take care of our criminals! Thanks to legallyarmed.com for reminding me to not shoot the person who just had a shotgun pointed at my Mothers Head! I know I need to be reminded not to take justice in my own hands but, i have lost the meaning of justice. While I may sympathize and agree with what he did and the way he did it, most self-defense laws are pretty clear. You can use lethal force to end a threat. At the time he was shooting at the car-jacker and when he shot him in the leg it appears he was shooting an unarmed man, running away from him. There was no threat to him or his mother at that point. I expect he will be indicted.Signed: Tired of all the CRAP _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dennis __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ | |||
