Neighbors 911 Call About Robbers Turns Deadly. If you are authorized to carry a weapon, you have probably been taught that the use of 'deadly' force cannot be used when it envolves property or no 'threat' to you.  Texas has some different laws that allow for 'defense' of property.  However, as frustrating as it is to see somone stealing from a neighbors home, the use of Lethal Force could come back a haunt any person. This person was informed by the 911 operator NOT to go outside and confront the robbers.  This is something that will come up at his trial if it is determined by the District Attorney to press the issue. Always remember that most District Attorneys do not like any form of vigilanteism.  In this incident, the odds are that this will not be pushed aside by the Texas D.A..  However, it could be pushed aside if the region where this incident too place has been satuarted with crime.  Public outcry can sometimes sway the outcome. I hear people all the time asking how can you justify valuing "that poor criminal's life" over whatever he was stealing....WELL I didn't put that value on his life, "HE" did. If everyone acted like he did, burglars would think hard before breaking into a home. Unfortunately, society seems to think that calling 911 will protect them or the ones they love. Police do a fair job of solving crimes but very little can be done to stop a violent crime that is taking place by dialing 911. I will keep my gun handy and take what ever action is needed to protect myself and my family from any violent crime. As a gun owner myself, I will do whatever it takes to defend my home if it ever comes down to it, but in the old mans case he crossed the fine line between personel defense and committing murder.
