Selling Your Personal Firearm At A Gun Show

There was a time when a person was able to sell their personal firearm at a gun show without worrying about any federal or state agency.  Those times are over.

You can still sell your personal firearm at any gun show in your resident state.  However, too many individuals are taking their guns and selling them at guns shows in other states.  These people are taking a chance of getting charged with a crime by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.

A.T.F. in the past year, has made arrests of dozens of people who bought or sold firearms outside of their resident state.  In Admore, Tennessee, over 10 people were arrested when A.T.F. Agents followed these people from a gun show in Birmingham, Alabama to a Flea Market in Tennessee.  When they started to sell the guns, the agents arrested them.  None of people arrested had a Federal Firearms License.

It is NOT a violation of state or federal law for a non-felon to sell a firearm at a gun show or to a person who is qualified to own or possess a firearm.  What are some of the questions a person should ask a potential buyer before the transaction is completed?  Here is a guideline.

It is suggested that you make a form with these questions and information so you can keep it with your personal files.  If a firearm you sold is used later in some illegal situation, you can refer to the form and show when you sold it, who you sold it to, and more.  Here are the questions an individual should ask the potential buyer, and please keep in mind that these are only suggestions.  You can add anything else you feel should be recorded and, WE ARE NOT ATTORNEYS so take this information as a suggestion not legal advice [this cut out the crap our critics would point out before they get a chance to do it].

  1. Are you a felon or are you currently under indictment for a crime that if convicted could impose a prison term of 1 year or longer?

  2. Are you a citizen of the U.S.A. or are you a legal alien resident?  If the person is not a citizen, you should be able to show that you sold a firearm to a resident alien who was in possession of a green card.  It is in your best interest to make a copy of their green card.

  3. Are you currently under a court order of protection or have you ever been convicted of domestic violence?

  4. Ask to see  their state driver license [you record the driver license number on your form], and state of issue [you can only sell a pistol and pistol ammunition to a resident of you home state who is 21 years old].

If the person is still there by the time you have asked all these questions, you just might be able to sell your firearm.  If they did not want to give you this information, it is better to walk away.  Who knows, you might have been talking to a undercover A.T.F. Agent.  Better to be safe than sorry these days.

Also, when you purchase a firearm from any non-dealer, ask a F.F.L. Dealer if they would do a N.I.C.S. check to make sure the firearm is not stolen.  It might cost you some money but, better to be safe than sorry.  Note:  We have been told that the F.B.I. or their state counter part [Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI)], [Tennessee Bureau of Investigations (TBI)], etc. are now asking F.F.L. Dealers to fax the information for a stolen check instead of doing it over the phone.  Check with a F.F.L. Dealer about this.

We believe that a person who is in possession of a license or permit to carry a firearm issued by their resident state, is a good risk to sell a firearm to.  However, ask all the questions above except if you reside in a state that exempts a person with a state CCW license or permit from a N.I.C.S. check.  This only applies if they are buying a firearm in their resident state.  And, make notes on your form about the CCW License or Permit.

Legally Armed Seminars

Every person who possess a license or permit to carry weapons has had some questions about their license or permit that they could not find the answer.  Questions they want an answer to, so they can carry with less problems.  It could be about other states and traveling, what to do if involved in a shooting, what to say or not to say if they are involved in a shooting incident, what they should practice to increase their odds of survival.  These are just some areas that people could have questions on.

We have a question and answer panel where the majority of questions can be submitted and answered.  However, any person who has been issued the authority to carry a lethal weapon should be in-formed and up-dated on issues relating to their license or permit to carry.  This is why we have done seminars in the past and will continue to do them.  However, some of you who attended our seminars in the past know the problems we faced with anti-gun organizations.  We want to stop this from happening again. If you are not familiar with what happened, here is what occurred in more than one location.

Certain anti-gun groups used credit cards to make reservations.  When the day of the seminar arrived, almost three-quarters of the attendees did not show up and asked for their seminar fee to be returned.  We did this and then we found out what had occurred.  Won't let that happen again.  There were other things that happened but, you get the drift.  We will do things different in upcoming seminars.

If you are in a gun club, own a firearm store, gun range, or are a manufacture, we want to partner up with you to hold one of our seminars.  Don't care what state you are in, we know that there are people within your state that desire more information than they currently have.  Even if you live in states like Illinois where only people who know where Jimmy Hoffa is buried, can carry a gun.  We will do our seminar on how to be legal in most states with certain non-resident licenses or permits.  If you live in Maryland or New Jersey where permits are issued to very few people, we will hold a seminar to assist those people and help others become legal to carry.

States that do not require any mandatory classroom or range work before a license or permit is issued, normally have legally armed individuals with a lot of questions about carrying, shooting, and other areas.  This is why we are starting again with one of these states.  The state of Georgia.   If you live in Georgia, watch the Georgia state page for announcements on the seminars in your home state.

Again, if you want to partner up with LegallyArmed.com to hold a seminar in your home state, send us an e-mail to let us know.

Georgia Firearms License Seminar

If you possess a Georgia Firearms License or want to get one, this seminar is something you should attend.  It will be held on January 13, 2007.  Watch the Georgia State Page on our website at:  http://www.legallyarmed.com/georgia.htm or just go to the CCW state page links and click on Georgia.

The hotel has been confirmed but, we are only giving this information out to people who we confirm have a Georgia Firearms License or those individuals who want to obtain one. This requires more work on our part and maybe some frustration on you part but, help us get over the problems.

Here are just some of the areas covered at this seminar:

  • States that honor the Georgia Firearms License.

  • Georgia Firearms License / Facts & Myths.

  • Changes in A.T.F. rules regarding a Georgia Firearms License.

  • How to increase access to states that do not honor the Georgia Firearms License with a non-resident license or permit.

  • Georgia self-defense statue.  What you should know. [This section is covered by a Georgia Attorney.  We say this incase some anti-gun nut says we are practicing law without a license.  Up-yours!]

These are just some of the topics covered and, there will be door prizes given out at each seminar.

There will be three (3) seminars at different times during the day.

Seminar 1:  9am to 12

Seminar 2:  1pm to 4

Seminar 3:  5pm to 8

Watch the Georgia state page for more details.

If you own or work at a firearm retailer, gun range, or belong to a gun club, we ask that you put some of our flyers out regarding this seminar.  Also, any person who does the Eastman Gun Shows, we ask that you take some of our flyers to the gun shows to place on your table and when people come in to the show.  Thanks

This seminar will be in the Atlanta area.  If you want to attend, send us an e-mail with your telephone #.  Thanks

Another Wal-Mart Firearm Story

Fred Depew has a Federal Firearms License. He sells firearms at his store W.D. Firearms in Knoxville, Tennessee.  He is also a Tennessee Handgun Instructor and a Grandfather.  The last part about being a Grandfather is important to this story.

Fred took his grandson to a Wal-Mart to buy him a Red Ryder BB Gun.  They found the BB Gun and took it to the sporting goods checkout.  The female clerk looked at Fred and then looked at his grandson.  She asked Fred if the BB Gun was for him or the boy.  Fred told her it was a gift for his grandson.  The clerk told Fred that she could not sell it to him because it was for his grandson.  Fred thought she was kidding and, it was a pretty good joke.  He soon realized she was not joking and he could not purchase the Red Ryder BB Gun.

Fred knowing that a B.B. gun sale in Tennessee does not require a Federal Form 4473, asked her why she was doing this.  She said that her manager told her not to sell any firearms to someone she thinks is buying it for another person [straw purchase].   Fred told her he agreed but, this was a B.B. Gun.  She did not care.  Fred asked to see the manage but, the manager was unavailable.  Fred asked her if he took his grandson outside and came back and bought the Red Ryder for himself, would it be OK.  Lets just leave you with a picture of Fred holding the Red Ryder B.B. Gun [sorry about the picture, thought the battery was bad but, had it on "night" scope at one o'clock in the afternoon].  We tried to reach the manager of this Wal-Mart Store but, still waiting for a call.

If you need a handgun permit course around Knoxville, TN or want to check out some well priced firearms, stop in at:

You can also see W.D Sporting Good at the R. K. Gun Show held in Knoxville at the Merchants Expo Center.

The Knoxville Gun Show War Is Over

The Knoxville, Tennessee region has seen one of the worst wars over gun show turf.  Mike Holloway has held his gun show for a number of years.  He faced competition from Bob Pope who failed in his efforts in Knoxville.  Rex Kehrli began to use the same location that Bob Pope used, the Knoxville Merchants Expo Center.

Rex Kehrli is considered to be the largest gun show promoters in the US regarding the number of states he holds gun shows in.  He holds a show every weekend in some part of the country.  He has a great crew that allows him to do this.  However, in Knoxville, Mike Holloway thought he could stop Rex.  He got Rex mad and Rex began to change the dates on his show to go directly against Mike Holloway.  There are a few things that got Rex made that we will not go into.

The result of this war is that the Mike Holloway Gun Show in the Smokey's is now a part of the Rex Kehrli gun show circuit. Mike Holloway has told another gun show promoter that he will be holding some type of military gun show in the Knoxville area but, this is not the region for military gun shows.  The Rex Kehrli gun show at the Merchants Convention Center will continue to grow and could be the largest and best gun show held in Tennessee.  You can find the schedule of Rex's shows at:

One Gun Show War Is Over & Another Is About To Start

Bill Goodman, his son David Goodman, and Bob Pope have known each for a long time.  Bill Goodman started gun shows in Nashville years ago.  Not many people know that Bob Pope use to work for Bill Goodman helping him with the Nashville Gun Show as told to us by David Goodman.

Bob Pope began holding his own gun shows at the Nashville Fairgrounds but left to hold his gun show in Smyrna, Tennessee.  This location is about 25 from Nashville.

Anyone who knows all the players in this group, knows that there is no love lost between the Goodman family and Pope.  Now, it seems that this has come to a head.

At the August Bob Pope Gun Show in Smyrna, he told his dealers that if they would sign up for six (6) shows a year for his location in Smyrna and, they did not participate at the Bill Goodman Gun Show, he would commit to six (6) shows per year at the Smyrna complex.  Sounds like the gloves have been dropped.

What Can You Do When You Can't Get To The Gun Range To Practice?

Everyone who carries a firearm needs to practice to keep up their motor reflexes and shooting skills.  It has long been the practice of law enforcement agencies, military groups, and competitive shooters, of routinely using dry fire exercises to help them maintain their shooting skills.  With the increase of legally armed citizens, this is something that can be done in the confines of your own home and it reduces the cost of range work.

The more live fire range work you can co, the better your shooting should be but, it does cost more. Dry fire exercises help when you can't get to the range and, when you have spent enough money shooting for the week or month.

Listen to what some of the leading authorities in the firearm field and law enforcement have said about the Bullite system:

Jane's: Intelligence and Insight You Can Trust:

"...Recognizing the problems inherent in dry fire shooting practice, a young soldier in the Israel Defense Force (IDF), developed the idea of a high technology device shaped like a standard ammunition cartridge but which, when struck by a firing pin, would emit a precise pulse of laser light."  "The Bullite is not a substitute for live fire but it offers complete flexibility allowing anyone to practice safely 10 to 15 minutes every day anywhere.  Its use makes live fire more efficient and represents a tremendous cost saving..."

Police and Security news

" A common problem with dry fire exercises is that, very often, shooters cannot tell whether they are performing the drills correctly...The Bullite attempts to resolve problems with dry fire practice by giving the shooter immediate feedback on where the bullet would have struck if the gun had been loaded..."

Police Chief Magazine

"...The Bullite enables officers to practice unsupervised or in groups...A safety pipe that attaches to the Bullite through the barrel indicates to any observer that a Bullite is in use, not an active bullet.  Among the users of the Bullite is Law Enforcement Officer Performance And Reaction Drill Challenge [Leopard,  a competition based on physical skills encountered in real-life law enforcement, including firearm discharge..."

Take a minute to look at this complete system.  Law enforcement officers and the military are paid to practice and go to the range to maintain their shooting skills.  As a civilian, you have to pay your own way.  This dry fire product is something every legally armed citizen should ask Santa to place under the tree.  The Bullite can be used in revolvers, semi-automatics, rifles, and shotguns.  To learn more, use this link:

Daddy Is Going To Get Her A Gun Permit!

The Daily News Journal, Murfreesboro, TN, has reported that a young woman escaped an attempted kidnapping by a man who threatened her with a knife.

He tried to get her into a van but, she told him she had money in her purse.  He took the purse and ran.  This was the second incident within a week that involved a Wal-Mart.

In a similar incident a woman was sexually assaulted in another Wal-Mart parking lot.  In that incident, the woman hit the man over the head with a crescent wrench she had under a car seat.

The 22 year old woman who had her purse stolen told the reporter, "My Dad is taking me to get my handgun permit."

Thanks Mom. I Could Not Have Shot Him Without Your Help!

Gary, Indiana - Associated Press - A 15 year-olds Mother was driving the car from which the boy fired the shots that killed a mentally disabled man, police said.

The woman slowed the car as she drove past the house...and her son shot Jermaine Martin 27, with an SKS semi-automatic rifle, police said.

Could this be the start of a family "drive by shooting competition" held in Gary, Indiana each year?

Ah Heck...He Was Only Playing HomeLand Security Cops & Robbers!

A routine traffic stop has led to the arrest of a college student in New York when one of the officers noticed a large police decal on a rear door of the minivan and red and blue strobe lights on the dashboard.

Stephen M. Kishore, 20, who is from Trinidad but lives in the Bronx.  When he showed the officers his Homeland Security Badge and Shield, he was arrested when one of the officers noticed on the back of the badge "Collectible Badge, Not For Official Use".

Kishore, a student at York College in Queens, was being held on $50,000 bail. He could face up to seven years in prison if convicted.  Kishore is on a scholarship, and he is a 4.0 student.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Question:  Don't all the badges used by law enforcement in Trinidad say "Collectible Badge. Not For Official Use"?

We are getting ready for all the e-mails from Trinidad we are about to receive!

Tryouts for the under five year old kill Americans pistol shoot are  being held in September

The Beg'rove Afgahn Clan has announced the second annual "Under Five Year Old -Kill Americans Pistol Competition".  This is a festive occasion when all Islamic Militants bring their young men [real, real, young men], to see who can handle a pistol the best.

Crying is not tolerated from the young participants.  If a child cries because of the noise or his pants are wet, he is immediately removed from the competition and, his father is beheaded.

The winner of the competition is allowed 1/2 of the seventy-two virgins he is suppose to receive when he becomes a martyr.  However, because the man is so young, by the time he is able to procreate, most of the virgins are no longer virgins.  The award committee has said they are trying to work this problem out.

Any Infidel who is willing to be used as a target, will be granted access to Allah!  [However, most Infidels don't believe this Clan because they lied before when they met with a few Infidels who wanted to learn more about the competition and,  they killed them].  The clan said it was an accident when all their pistols went off at the same time while they were being cleaned.  "Yeah, like we believe that one.  Just because we are Infidels doesn't mean were stupid", said Gene Kennedy a long time Infidel and occasional Crusader.

Osama Bin Ladin stopped by briefly to say hello to the Clan Elders.  He did not stay long because his ass was sore from constantly rubbing against rocks when taking a dump in the caves and it was hard for him to sit.  The Clan Elders told him it was time to bathe because they knew he was coming about six days before, when the wind came their way.

Bin Ladin has become increasingly attracted to the young men in this Clan.  This bothers the Clan Elders.  Some say this is because he is looking for more recruits. Others are saying because he lives in the mountains with so many ugly men, he is beginning to act funny!  Who knows but, it caused a concern and he was asked to leave by the Elders.

Unfortunately, this story ended abruptly when one of our staff members could not control himself and;  he killed the person telling us the story.

We have sent this staff member to an anger management class and, we also gave him a raise!  Legally Armed E-News Staff.

11 year old who is too old to be in pistol competition above, used a .45 caliber to rob a man while on his bike!

It is hard to recognize what is real and what is a joke anymore.  In this "real" incident, an 11 year old used a pistol to rob a 50 year old man in Sumter, South Carolina.

Sumter Chief of Police Patty Patterson [think this Chief comes from an Irish family], said the boy would not be tried as an adult because he is too young.

The boy was on his bicycle when he pointed the gun at the man and was given the wallet.  Officers found the wallet in a ditch with a .45 caliber handgun that had been reported stolen.  They also found 14 grams of marijuana.  The boy said he had used some of the stolen money to buy the marijuana.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

11 year old kid, on a bike, carrying a loaded .45 pistol, looking for someone to rob so he can buy some Grass.  Most of America is looking over their shoulders for another large Terrorist attack when we should really be watching kids on bikes.   What the hell is going on folks?

Detroit Police Officer's Duty Gun Found By Young Boy Who Shot Himself

A 59 year old veteran law enforcement officer was off duty and watching some children when one of the children found the officers duty gun.  The 4 year old boy was able to pull the trigger of the Glock and, it killed him.

The father of the young child wondered why the officer's gun was so easy to find.  The pistol was under a bed when the boy found it. Maria Miller, a spokeswoman for Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, said the office would weigh what, if any, charges to file.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave.

LegallyArmed.com  jokes around a lot but, if you leave a firearm just laying around, somebody is going to get hurt.  When not in use, store the firearm away from un-authorized individuals before it can be used to hurt you or someone else.

We Need Your Feedback !

One of the hardest areas regarding websites, producing E-News, website categories, and areas related to CCW issues, is if we are doing a good, average, or bad job in what we are doing.

This is where we ask for your help.

Please use the comment form on the main page:

http://www.legallyarmed.com/

to let us know how we are doing.  It is hard enough for us just to check misspelled words when we write something [ normally the spell checker heats us so bad, we have to turn the computer off for awhile].  We need your in-put to help us know how we are doing.

If you would take a few minutes to post your comments, it will help us tremendously.  We will contact you by e-mail for your approval before we post any comments [if there are any comments to post].

However, if it is a real nasty comment, don't worry because we probably won't ask for your approval to post it but, we might look-up the IP address of the computer to pay you a visit [ just kidding ].

Some of you have already e-mailed in asking for a forum for everybody to get involved.  We are looking at this and will have something in the near future.  The problem is with monitoring this type of activity.  It is hard and takes time.  However, we are looking into how to do it.

Currently we are getting more activity for our "ask a question" section.  If you look at this section, we believe you will find it beneficial.  Comments regarding this panel section can be sent in by e-mail and if they do not contain any bad language or something else that might offend others, it will be posted.  We only want to make sure it is something the majority of us want to read.  Comments about ex-wives don't always amuse everybody.  However, ex-wives who want to post something about their ex-husband are usually funny!

Seriously, we ask for your help with evaluating the work we are doing.  If you take the time to do this, we guarantee you that this website will become one of the leading sites for CCW issues, information, statistical data, and areas that will help all Legally Armed Citizens.

We don't want to infer that other websites on the Internet are not beneficial or interesting because they are and, we pay them homage.

What we are trying to accomplish is to make this website informative and beneficial for every person's interest regarding CCW issues.

Thank you.

That is all for September.

Stop in for the October E-News next month and watch out for kids on bikes.

Especially if they are carrying a .45 caliber
